Business and Trade Storage in Salisbury
Space is usually the first thing a growing business runs short of. Stock arrives before there's anywhere to put it, tools stay in the van because the garage is full, and a new contract means finding somewhere for materials by Monday.
Green Guard Storage has provided self storage in Salisbury for businesses since 2011, in unit sizes from 5ft to 40ft containers.

Who uses business storage in Salisbury
Landscapers and Ground-workers
Landscaping kit spends half the year working and half the year in the way. Ride-ons, chippers, blowers and rotavators sitting on a driveway or on the side of a job are a security risk and probably isn't doing the equipment much good. Our container storage in Salisbury gives you one dry, locked place for the machinery. We're a few minutes east of the city on Old Malthouse Lane, which puts us within easy reach of jobs across Salisbury, Amesbury, Wilton and the villages along the A36.
Sports Clubs and Community Groups
A lot of sports clubs in the Wiltshire area keep their kit in a volunteer's garage, and it works until the volunteer moves, retires or needs their garage back. A container puts the club's equipment in one place that belongs to the club rather than to a person: goalposts, corner flags and nets, tents and camping stores, gazebos and tables for fêtes and fundraisers, stage and sound gear, sports kit, and the boxes of things that only come out once a year.
Mobile and Van-based Businesses
Everything a mobile business owns travels with it, whether it's needed today or not. Coffee and food trailers, mobile groomers, valeters, hire operators, Salisbury market traders and mobile therapists all run into the same wall: stock, spare equipment and seasonal kit that has to live somewhere, and somewhere it can be reached at the hours the work actually happens.
A container gives you a fixed base without a lease. Restock between pitches, swap out equipment, leave the gazebo and the winter setup behind for the summer, and load at five in the morning for a market without waiting for anyone to open up. You drive right to the door, so nothing gets carried further than the back of the van.

Tradespeople and contractors
Plumbers, electricians, builders, window fitters and mobile mechanics all end up carrying kit they don't need that day, because there's nowhere else to leave it. A container five minutes east of Salisbury gives you somewhere to keep spares, the long lengths, the tools you use twice a year and the materials left over from the last job all at ground level, with the van reversed to the door, and open at whatever hour your day starts.
What you get with a business storage unit
- Seven sizes, from a 5ft container to a 40ft high cube — start with what you need now and move up or down as the business changes.
- Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — including Sundays, bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year.
- Drive-up access at ground level — reverse a van, tipper or trailer to the door and load straight in. No lifts, corridors or trolleys.
- Dry, ventilated and treated for condensation — Grafotherm anti-condensation coating, ventilation and a sealed floor, so stock and tools come out as they went in.
- Secure by construction — marine-grade steel, welded lock box, free reinforced padlock and CCTV
- No deposit and no admin fee — one month minimum, free cancellation, and no long contract to sign.
- Room to grow on one site — containers and secure open compounds for vehicles and plant equipment at the same address.

Container storage or an indoor unit?
Both are self storage, but they're different products, and the right one depends on what you're moving in and out and when.
Access hours
Indoor sites have set opening hours and most close on at least some days of the year. Every container on our site is yours 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including Sundays, bank holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year. If your day starts at five, that's important!
Getting things in and out
Indoor units mean a shared loading bay, a corridor and often a lift. A container is at ground level with hard standing in front of it — reverse the van, tipper or trailer to the door and load straight in. Nothing gets carried further than the back of the vehicle.

Headroom
Indoor units are limited by the ceiling height of the building. A standard container gives you 7ft 10in inside and a high cube adds around a foot on top of that, which is the difference between fitting a ride-on with a roll bar, a marquee frame or racking to the roof and not.

Size at the top end
Our largest single unit is 320 sq ft, and you can take a second container on the same site or move up to a compound with a container inside a secure fenced area.

Local Business Case Study: How GreaseApe Used Storage to Grow
GreaseApe supplies workshop consumables through its website and a fleet of local sales vans that visit garages and workshops across Salisbury every week. Like many growing businesses, it started from home. As the product range and customer base expanded, boxes of stock gradually took over more and more space at Matt's home in Winterslow.
Moving the stock into storage containers gave GreaseApe the additional capacity it needed without committing to a large warehouse. Workshop consumables could be kept together, online orders could be supplied from organised stock, and the sales vans could collect the products needed for their weekly routes around Salisbury and the surrounding area.
The storage site on Old Malthouse Lane was particularly convenient. It could be reached from Winterslow along the A30, while its location close to Salisbury made it practical for restocking vans serving workshops around the city. Drive-up access meant products could be transferred directly between the containers and vans without lifts, corridors or carrying stock across a building.
“We reached the point where the business had simply outgrown the space we had at home in Winterslow and we needed to look for self storage in Salisbury. Using storage containers gave us room to increase our stock, keep the vans supplied and continue growing without taking on the cost and commitment of a large commercial unit.”
— Matt Flatman, GreaseApe
Business Storage compounds
If you need more than a container but less than a commercial unit, our storage compounds combine a secure fenced outdoor area with your own container inside it. That gives you covered space for tools, materials and stock alongside room to keep a trailer, a tipper, plant or bulk materials on the same footprint — with the same 24/7 drive-up access as everything else on site. Compounds are limited in number and are let as they become available.

Business storage FAQs
What is business storage?
Business storage is space rented by a company or sole trader for stock, tools, equipment, materials, records or furniture. At Green Guard it means a lockable shipping container on our Salisbury site, from a 5ft unit to a 40ft high cube, that you drive straight up to.
Why do businesses use self storage?
Usually because the alternative isn't ideal; a garage that's full, a spare room that's now a stockroom, a driveway with a trailer on it, or a lease that is longterm, expensive with a large deposit. Storage sits between working out of a van or a house and taking on premises. It costs a fixed monthly figure, it doesn't tie you in, and you can change size as the business does.
Is business storage secure?
Our containers are marine-grade steel with welded seams and a welded lock box that shields the padlock. A reinforced industrial grade padlock is included. The site is covered by high tech CCTV and floodlighting.
What size storage unit do I need for my business?
It depends on what you're storing, and length is usually more useful than floor area. A 5ft holds tool chests, fixings and records. A 20ft is our most popular container for trade businesses. A 40ft is a double garage. Our size guide gives you more information and storage examples.
Can I run my business from a storage unit?
You can store, collect and dispatch. You can't run a shop or a customer-facing premises from a container, and units have no mains power or lighting.
Book Business Storage Here - From Only £80 per month
How much does business storage cost?
Prices start at £80 a month for a 5ft container and go to £320 for a 40ft high cube, all including VAT.
How quickly can I move in?
Book online, pay for the first month, and collect your keys on the start date you select. This can be the same day.
Do I need a deposit?
No deposit and no admin fee. One month minimum, then it runs month to month, and you can cancel free of charge.
What can't I store?
No fuel, LPG or gas cylinders, no acetylene or oxygen sets, no ammunition, pyrotechnics or weapons, no food or drink stock, and nothing living. Please get in touch to discuss specific requirements.
Can I change to a bigger or smaller unit?
Yes. Because terms are month to month with no deposit, moving up or down costs you nothing but the time to shift things across. You can also take a second container on the same site rather than moving everything, and we have secure open compounds if you outgrow containers entirely.
Where exactly are you, and can I get a lorry in?
Fieldfare Business Park, Old Malthouse Lane, Salisbury SP4 6DR, a few minutes east of the city, reachable without going near the Churchfields congestion. There's hard standing with plenty of room to turn and reverse a van, tipper, trailer or a full-size removal lorry.
Can I get deliveries sent to my unit?
The units don't have individual addresses so you would currently need to be on site when your delivery arrives. Please contact us for specific requirements.
