What Fits in a 8ft Storage Unit?

8ft Storage Container — What Fits and What It's Used For

An 8ft container is our second smallest storage size. It gives you 56 sq ft of floor, a footprint of 8ft by 7ft and around 390 cubic feet once you stack to head height. That is 40% more space than our 5ft unit, and nearly half a single garage.

A 5ft is packed from the doorway; an 8ft leaves you room to walk in, reach the back and pull one thing out without unloading everything in front of it. If you expect to visit regularly rather than lock up and forget, that matters more than the extra square footage.

What fits in an 8ft container?
  • Around 70 medium boxes stacked to head height, with room to walk between them
  • The contents of a large shed or a small workshop — bench tools, timber offcuts, ladders under 8ft
  • A motorbike, with space left over for helmets, tools and a couple of boxes
  • A washing machine or fridge-freezer plus a bed frame, mattress and boxes

What doesn't fit in an 8ft container?
It will not take a full two-bedroom house, a three-piece suite alongside appliances, or anything longer than eight feet — long ladders, scaffold boards and sheet materials all need more length. If that is your list, the 10ft containers gives you another two feet, and the 20ft high cube takes sheet materials standing on end.

Getting your things in and out
Every container sits at ground level with hard standing in front of it, so a van or a car with the seats down reverses straight to the doors and unloads at floor height. There are no lifts, no corridors and no shared loading bay to queue for.

The site is on the edge of Salisbury between Laverstock and Ford, five minutes from the centre without going near Churchfields Industrial Estate. The whole yard is covered by CCTV recording around the clock, each door has a lock box shielding the padlock, and you can come and go at any hour on any day of the year — including Christmas.

8ft storage container — common questions
How much bigger is an 8ft than a 5ft unit? About 40% more floor area — 56 sq ft against 40 sq ft. The practical difference is that you can walk into an 8ft, which makes it the better choice if you need to get at your things regularly.
Will a motorbike fit in an 8ft container? Yes. An 8ft gives you the length to wheel a bike straight in with room to work around it, which a 5ft does not.
Is the 8ft your cheapest storage unit? No the 5ft container is our lowest-cost container size. Current prices and availability are on the booking page.
Can I use an 8ft unit for my business? Yes plenty of tradesmen and online sellers do.

How long do I have to take it for? One month minimum, unless we agree otherwise. No deposit, and you can cancel free of charge any time up to 24 hours before your move-in date.
